The second sign comes through Nuh. It teaches the same truth as the first sign, from a different angle.
Adam showed us that man cannot cover his own shame. Nuh shows us that man cannot save himself from judgment. And in both cases, Allah provides.
“And it was revealed to Nuh: None of your people will believe except those who have already believed. So do not be distressed by what they do. And construct the ship under Our eyes and Our inspiration.”
Surah Hud 11:36-37 | quran.com/11/36
What was the Ark?
The Ark was Allah’s provision for salvation from judgment. The flood was coming. Nothing Nuh’s family could build on their own would survive it. But Allah gave the design. Allah gave the command. Allah carried them through.
Notice what the verse says: construct the ship under Our eyes and Our inspiration. The Ark was not Nuh’s idea. It was Allah’s provision, built by human hands on divine instruction.
Who was saved?
Only those who entered the Ark. Not those who were good people by their own judgment. Not those who prayed many prayers outside the Ark. Those who entered lived. Those who stayed outside died.
Nuh’s own son refused to enter. Nuh pleaded with him.
“And Nuh called out to his son: O my son, come aboard with us and be not with the disbelievers. He said: I will take myself to a mountain. It will protect me from the water. Nuh said: Today there is no protector from the command of Allah except for him upon whom He has mercy.”
Surah Hud 11:42-43 | quran.com/11/42
The son trusted in the mountain. His own plan. The mountain did not save him. Only the Ark, provided by Allah, saved those who entered it.
What is the Ark pointing toward?
The same thing the Garment of Righteousness pointed toward. Allah’s provision is specific. It must be entered. It must be received. It is not enough to know it exists. Nuh’s son knew the Ark existed. He chose the mountain instead.
The second sign adds something the first did not fully show: Allah’s provision must be entered. A door must be walked through.
From the Injil
“God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water.”
Injil, 1 Peter 3:20 | bible.com/bible/111/1PE.3.20
The Ark of wood carried them. They did not swim. They were borne. This is what receiving Allah’s provision looks like.
A Parable
A great flood was coming to a valley. Everyone knew it. Many had plans. Some planned to climb to the high places. Some planned to build their own rafts. Some planned to pray very hard and trust that their devotion would protect them.
One man had received a specific instruction from the one who knew the flood best: build this structure, in this way, and enter it before the water comes.
He built it. He entered it. He called to his neighbors. Some came. Some did not.
When the water came, it did not ask what anyone had planned. It came as it always does.
In the structure, there was silence and safety. Outside it, there was only the sound of the flood.
The Ark was specific. Allah’s design, built on Allah’s instruction. Nuh’s son had his own plan. The plan did not save him.
This is the second sign. Man cannot save himself from judgment. Allah provides the way. But the way must be entered.
What is it that keeps a person standing outside the door of Allah’s provision, trusting their own mountain instead?
This is a question worth sitting with very honestly.
